One word summarizes ERP Connect Consulting's Commissions Management -- "simple".
Setting up your company's commissions structure in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central shouldn't be complicated or frustrating. This is true whether the commission is split, based on profitability, based on whether a customer payment is made, or based on an item or item category.
All scenarios are possible and configurable by using only one screen. This makes processing and reporting on commissions a joy - not a pain!
The Commission Matrix Card
As seen in the Commission Matrix Card above, all possible filters are available. This example pays all salespeople a 5% commission, when the invoice is posted, rather than when the invoice is paid later by the customer.
If some salespeople are going to be paid say 10% instead of 5%, simply continue to use this Card which is already filtered on those salespeople who are to receive 5%. Afterward, configure a new Card to filter on those who will receive 10%.
5% in this example is Commission Rule Entry No. 1, while the second example for 10% would be Commission Rule Entry No. 2.
All of this means no more having to place multiple possible scenarios into one single matrix!
Other filters not pictured in the previous screenshot are shown, here:
Using the Matrix for a Sales Invoice
Clicking the “Override” button in the Commission Journal allows you to do just that – manually override the calculated 5% Pending Commission Amount:
Incidentally, creating split commissions is possible in the Sales Invoice through the “Sales Team (COM)” drop-down list:
Processing Commissions
Using the “Commission Payment Journal” screen is the first step in paying commissions to salespeople. Commissions are generated, reviewed, and posted in this screen.
The “Pay-To Type” field is chosen to be either Employee or Vendor.
Choosing Employee will generate an employee ledger entry for payroll processing, and selecting Vendor will generate a vendor invoice to be processed through payables.
Clicking “Generate Payment Journals” displays this window where you can enter a Thru Date, such as the month-ending date for May:
Clicking “Yes” to the above question shows the following data for Employee:
To better review this data, you can generate the Commission Payment Report:
In the “Pay-to No.” field, choose the employee:
Clicking the “Post Journals” button and answering “Yes” will post to the Commission Ledger, Employee Ledger, and the General Ledger.
To ensure such successful posting, access the Employee Card beforehand and mark the employee as Commissionable:
Also, make sure that the applicable liabilities account from the general ledger appears in the “Employee Posting Groups” screen:
From Employee Ledger Entries, conduct standard Business Central check processing to pay the employee.
Reviewing the Commissions Ledger and History
From the main “Commission Management (COM)” screen, select Commission Ledger to find the Sales Invoice just processed:
From here, you can drill down on the Invoice or click Commission History Report.
The Dashboard
Clicking the “Commission Dashboard” selection in Commission Management (COM) displays charts and statistics:
