Configuring E-Mail in ERP with Office 365 E3 Licensing

Configuring email in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central with Office 365 E3 licensing can significantly enhance your business communication and productivity. This integration allows you to seamlessly manage your emails, appointments, and contacts within Dynamics 365 BC, leveraging the robust features of Office 365. In this blog, we’ll guide you through the step-by-step process of setting up this integration, ensuring you can take full advantage of the powerful capabilities offered by both platforms.

Although this may sound like a daunting task, e-mail configuration is simply conducted using BC’s Assisted Setup.

Assisted Setup

Click BC’s “Search” button, and find Assisted Setup:

Search assisted setup

Using Assisted Setup, click the “Set up outgoing email” hyperlink:

If the following message appears, simply click Yes:

In the first window of the “Set Up Email” wizard, click Next:

Set Up Email

For the type of e-mail account, choose Microsoft 365 and click Next:

Set Up Email

After entering the Account Name and Email Address of your shared mailbox, click Next:

Setup Microsoft 365 Email Account

Before clicking Finish in the final window of the wizard, click the “Send Test Email” button:

Choose to e-mail yourself, as shown in the next two screens.

Choose test email address
Enter Email Address

Select Allow Always, in the REST API screen:

Before clicking OK in the confirmation screen shown above, access your mailbox by opening a “New InPrivate” window in Microsoft Edge, accessing https://office.com, and logging in with your Office 365 E3 credentials.  In my case, I use the credentials for JohnE@turnkeytec.net.

Within Microsoft 365 click Apps and, then, Outlook:

The following shows the typical test message:

Back in BC click OK and Finish on the confirmation screen and final wizard screen, respectively:
