Configuring email in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central with Office 365 E3 licensing can significantly enhance your business communication and productivity. This integration allows you to seamlessly manage your emails, appointments, and contacts within Dynamics 365 BC, leveraging the robust features of Office 365. In this blog, we’ll guide you through the step-by-step process of setting up this integration, ensuring you can take full advantage of the powerful capabilities offered by both platforms.
Although this may sound like a daunting task, e-mail configuration is simply conducted using BC’s Assisted Setup.
Assisted Setup
Click BC’s “Search” button, and find Assisted Setup:
Using Assisted Setup, click the “Set up outgoing email” hyperlink:
If the following message appears, simply click Yes:
In the first window of the “Set Up Email” wizard, click Next:
For the type of e-mail account, choose Microsoft 365 and click Next:
After entering the Account Name and Email Address of your shared mailbox, click Next:
Before clicking Finish in the final window of the wizard, click the “Send Test Email” button:
Choose to e-mail yourself, as shown in the next two screens.
Select Allow Always, in the REST API screen:
Before clicking OK in the confirmation screen shown above, access your mailbox by opening a “New InPrivate” window in Microsoft Edge, accessing https://office.com, and logging in with your Office 365 E3 credentials. In my case, I use the credentials for JohnE@turnkeytec.net.
Within Microsoft 365 click Apps and, then, Outlook:
The following shows the typical test message:
Back in BC click OK and Finish on the confirmation screen and final wizard screen, respectively:
If you search on Email Accounts, you’ll see a screen like this:

Pull up a Sales Order, choose Print/Send, and click Email Confirmation:
After filling in your e-mail address in To, click Send email:
Open the e-mail in Outlook, to review what the customer would normally see:
